To find the categories, select Administer Products -> Categories . All categories are listed in the top half. You can use the entry fields above the list to search for particular categories.

Click a category to edit the settings for the category in the bottom half of the screen.

The primary settings

  • Use Active to activate and deactivate the category. If a category is deactivated, it will not be displayed to users.
  • You can use Hidden to specify whether the category is to be displayed to users. If a category is hidden, it will not be displayed to users even if the category is activated. To learn what hidden categories are used for, refer to Making appropriate use of hidden categories.
  • In Short Description you can enter a brief description of the category. The brief description is displayed to users when they view the category.
  • In Subcategory Of you specify the point at which the category is to appear:
    • If the category is not to be a subcategory of any other category, then select -- Off.
    • If the category is to be a subcategory of another category, then select the appropriate category.
  • You can use Sorting to define the order in which categories are displayed: The category with the lowest number is displayed at the top, and the category with the highest number at the bottom. Enter a number between 0 and 9999.
  • You can use Picture, Upload Picture, Icon und Upload Icon settings to upload pictures for categories. You will find information about this in Setting up category pictures.
  • With External Link, you can enter a link that opens when users click on the category. Use this function only if you want to display a link in the category navigation. It causes the category to lose its normal function!
  • You can use Alt. Template to specify that the category is to be presented with a different template. For information on templates and their use, refer to Adapting Templates: Basics.
  • With Fast Sorting you specify the manner in which the products in the category will be sorted. To learn about the available options, refer to Sorting products.
  • With Price From/To you can specify that all products in a certain price range are shown in this category. Enter the lower limit in the first entry field and the upper limit in the second entry field. Then all products of the eShop within this price range are shown in this category.
  • You can use Spec. VAT to specify that all products in this category have a special VAT rate The procedure for setting up different VAT rates correctly can be found in VAT: Basics.
  • If Skip all negative discounts is active, negative allowances will not be calculated for any products in this category. Negative allowances are primarily discounts and vouchers. Payment methods often include negative allowances (cash discounts) as well.
