Variants represent different product options. Examples of typical options are:

  • Different sizes for items of clothing.
  • Various colours in which products are offered.

Under Master Settings -> Core Settings -> System -> Variants, you will find four settings that allow you to adapt the behaviour of variants:

Since version 4.2.0 you can create multidimensional variants. Multidimensional variants are needed if a product has several different versions, e.g. if clothes are available in different sizes and different colors. Using multidimensional variants you can create a variant for each combination.

Variants allow you to set up different product options for which you can specify nearly all settings. Variants are saved as separate products. Accordingly, you can adapt variants like standard products. You can enter a stock inventory for each variant, upload various images, modify the description text, etc.

Many products often require the same variants to be set up, e.g. clothing sizes for many articles of clothing. It would be very time-consuming to set up these variants for each product. For this reason, you can set up a selection list as a template for variants.

To provide products with the options you have created in a selection list, you assign the selection list to products. You have two options for doing this:

The following example describes step by step how to set up variants for a product. Three variants will be set up: Clothing sizes S, M and L.

In this example, a selection list will be created for different types of wood in which furniture is offered.

Selection lists allow you to easily set up different options for a product. In selection lists, you can set up the name of the options and different prices for each option.
