A product can be assigned to any number of categories. One of these categories can be defined as the main category. The main category is only important if the product is assigned to more than one category.

With attributes, you can set up further properties for products. How attributes are used is explained by an example: the attribute

Shape

is created and assigned to a product.

You have two options for sorting products within categories:

  • Via fast sorting of category. A number of predefined sorting options are available here.
  • You can sort products manually. This allows you to specify the exact sort order, but requires more time.

You can specify the manufacturer for each product. This allows you to display the products of specific manufacturers to users.

You have two options for assigning products to categories:

  • Specifying the categories to which an individual product is assigned. This is appropriate if you are setting up a new product or editing an existing product.
  • Specifying one category to which products are to be assigned. This is primarily appropriate if you have set up a new category and want to assign a large number of products to it all at once.

If you edit a product under Administer Products -> Products, you can make additional settings in the Advanced tab.

These instructions explain the procedure for setting up a new category. Only the primary settings will be made. Additional settings are described in Primary settings for categories.

To find the categories, select Administer Products -> Categories . All categories are listed in the top half. You can use the entry fields above the list to search for particular categories.
