Why migrate at all?
The IT environment is constantly evolving, creating new security and performance requirements that older versions can only meet with significant additional effort, or not at all.
Many shop operators still avoid migration out of concern about effort, costs and downtime.
OXID is committed to lowering migration barriers to minimize effort and downtime. This gives you more time and budget for innovation.
The Challenge
Many shop operators shy away from migration: Existing modules often appear outdated – but in practice they are not. At the same time, the template engine switch and complex databases are perceived as unpredictable cost traps.
Our Solution
We created the Migration Expert position specifically for this topic. Through our OXID Project Accelerator (OPAL) and partial automation, we reduce the effort required for technical migration.
What does the technical migration include?
Included in Scope
- Migration of shop core files (OXID eShop Core)
- Migration of the database (structure and content)
- Ensuring basic technical operability of the system in the current stable version
Optional
- Provision of OXID-owned modules in a version compatible with the current stable release (no content adaptation or further development)
If agreed upon in the project
Not Included
Not part of the technical migration are all topics that individually extend, customize or functionally shape the shop.
- Migration, adaptation or redevelopment of third-party or custom modules
- Adjustments to theme, frontend or templates
- Adaptation, integration and testing of external interfaces and integrations (e.g. ERP, PIM, payment, tracking)
- Stabilization, fine-tuning and go-live related work after handover
These services are handled by the customer or partner.
We overcome the biggest hurdles
Migration has costs, especially when legacy issues (modules, templates, databases) are unclear. That's exactly why we rely on a preliminary cost check and standardized steps. This gives you a realistic, reliable cost framework for the migration.
To give you a clear view of the future, we take a deep look into your system and support you with the following:
Template Engine Migration
The switch from Smarty to Twig is process-driven and partially automated to save time.
Hosting and Costs
Modern hosting is often more affordable and secure. With the current OXID eShop version, you benefit from optimized performance.
Database and Modules
Database cleanup and analysis of all third-party modules for compatibility with the latest shop version.
Fast Migration
Through our Migration Expert, partial automation and OPALs we achieve up to 50%* effort reduction for the technical migration.

Together with your OXID partner
Migration is teamwork: We handle the technical migration while your OXID partner focuses on what makes your shop unique.
- Clear handover from technical migration to the partner for the continued and final implementation of the entire migration.
- Your agency partner gains valuable time to further develop your shop in terms of usability, conversion optimization and individual features.
- You benefit from the interplay of our deep OXID product knowledge and the practical project experience of our partners.

* The "50%" figure refers to the technical migration. Individual customizations, complex third-party modules and specific interfaces require separate assessment. A prerequisite for this timeframe is our preliminary, cost-neutral check to estimate the effort involved.
